Patient: been taking 50 mg,of zoloft for 2 years for depression, stop taking the meds 3 days ago.now experiencing some headaches, light headiness.,my doctor never put me on a wean off process, any suggestions to speed up this process of recovery?

Doctor: It is strange that your doctor did not taper you off of the medications. Coming off of SSRIs fast like this can lead to withdrawal symptoms – ex upset stomach, headaches, anxiety, etc. I would suggest to consult with the prescribing physician and definitely report your symptoms.

Here is a link to a Traditional Chinese medicine interpretation of the process (yet, I would stick with the Western view on this one-hence the need to taper off of the medication appropriately and monitoring by a physician)

Patient: Hello I have been having some rather serious anxiety for no reason combined with aggravating depression for about 3 months solid. It comes in waves – I feel nromal about 20% of the time and then revert back to teh high anxiety and depression feeling the rest of the time. I noticed that these symptoms all started in June when they put me on high blood pressure meds (Lisonopril 20-30mg). I talked to the doctor already about ity and he shrugged it off. Some days I think I need to just drive down and check myself in to a mengtal hospital it gets that bad.

Patient: Is it possible that the cause of my anxiety that started 7 weeks ago (constant pain in head, eyes are wrong (gone blurry) pain at back of head / neck region) tense shoulders, chest / breast pain and general feeling out of it- is because of the contraceptive pill i was taking? Ive seen some docs (including a Psychologist) and have started taking Cipralex anti-d but have been feeling even worse then before. ive had no real answers from my docs here other then that the tabs will make everything better.. How long do the side effects last?- its been 4 days and i feel like my anxiety is worse. i dont eat anything for fear of vomiting (which i have done 3 mornings since starting), my eyes are really sore, ive had a burning sensation over most of my skin- esp the back of my head where my pre medication was. i think i have had some control over the pain feelings that i have had.. but i still wake up with the horrible feelin in my head and thats sets the day off in a bad way. Thanks michelle.

Patient: I am currently under the care of a psychiatrist and take Wellbutrin (100mg)and Topomax (75mg). However, in the past three days I have been having, not exactly suicidal thoughts (at least not actively), but just wanting to be “gone” forever, not wake up ever, hating everyone, extreme rage, etc. I am really not sure if I should just wait and see if this goes away – I’ve episodes before but this seems to be much worse. I’m not really sure why I’m writing except I’m beginning to be afraid of my possible actions right now and there’s no one to talk to here.
